Scope of Work: Architecture, Lead Design Consultant, Contract Administration

Following the construction of a new Kitchen and Dining Hall in 2010, Plan A were appointed to continue the works started with the Main Entrance (The HUB) 2016, in order to develop detailed designs for the significant extension of the Dining Hall and Servery. Plan A lead a multi-disciplinary design team who worked closely with the school and Main Contractor (O&D Construction) to develop construction information and updated Planning Applications to accommodate changes needed by the school. The project was in a particularly constrained part of the campus with limited access and had to avoid any disruption to the use of the existing Dining Hall and the school in general.
The design included an in-situ concrete frame and 3m deep retaining walls that were carefully tanked due to the lower sections being ‘sunken’ in the sloping clay ground. The lower floor finishes used the exposed concrete, whilst the upper floor used an exposed steel frame to create the vaulted space that is filled with natural light from tall windows and roof-lights.
